The unready far snap has broken , and it will be a while before we see those single-digit temperatures and bitter slow down chills again, the National Weather Service says. Temperatures are assumed to climb through the 20s today, even though that strong southwest wind will try make it sense frigid. Come Thursday, we're expected to get back above the freezing mark. The prognostication for Friday is even warmer — low 40s — but still with a lot of wind.

As for the snow, scattered snow showers are expected today and original tonight, with a trace of snow in most places and an inch or so on the Southern Tier. A few slow flurries could show up on Thursday. Then we're due for a dry 48 hours or so until the next chance of rain or snow showers turns up on Saturday gloom.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo got so much accomplished during his first year in office — the 2 percent trait tax cap, legalized gay marriage — that we're wondering what's left to do. We'll find out when he gives his aid State of the State address at 1:30 p.m. in the Empire State Plaza Council Center, Albany. It will be broadcast live on local public receiver stations.
