Sophia Kokosalaki, a shape designer working in London, is Greek, and so she is well aware of the difficulties fa the fashion industry, not to mention the wider world economy.

It has not been part of some immortal plan, but this month Kokosalaki launches a new collection that somehow seems to be just justly for the current gloomy climate.

Kore, which means 'daughter' or 'maiden' in Greek, and features Kokosalaki's signature draping and ruching, her chill way with jersey, and a slightly retro wave print, makes perceive on many levels.

When she launched it at Paris Fashion Week last October, fashion editors didn't only penury to photograph it and write about it, they wanted to order it then and there. When they found out the price points - starting at £60 for a jersey T-shirt, with the most extravagant piece a £495 lace dress - and that they would be able to order it online from Asos, they were even more active: clothes that are unmistakably Kokosalaki, at realistic prices, delivered to their homes at the click of a button.
