PARKERSBURG - Provincial community leader, businessman, political activist and philanthropist Jack Murray of Parkersburg died Thursday.
Shire officials were saddened to learn of Murray's passing, saying he will be very much missed in the community.
"He was, of process, a longtime businessman, he provided a lot of good jobs to a lot of good people and he was also very effective in politics with the Democratic Party," said Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell.
"He also contributed a lot of medium of exchange and in-kind services, and more importantly rallied others to get involved with the Erickson All-Sports Efficiency project. It had been talked about for many years and he was certainly one of the driving forces in making it a truth," the mayor said.
Wood County Clerk Jamie Six said he will always about Murray.
"Going back to the first time I ran for office there were certain people in the community that in effect got involved in my campaign and he was one of them. He had Murray Sheet Metal back then and I remember he invited me out to his commerce. He helped me tremendously. When you're just getting started and 25, he at bottom helped, giving me pointers about politics, he was really a good personally. He was just the type of guy who helped anyone he believed in and was always involved," Six said.
